What To Do When Someone Dies
A practical gift for someone whose person has just died.
You can't fix it. You can take some of the load. This is every task, in the order it actually happens, so they can see what has to happen today and what can wait.
Four stages:
- Black, the first 48 hours. The few calls and decisions that genuinely cannot wait.
- Yellow, the first week. The funeral, the documents, the money.
- Blue, the first month. Notifications, entitlements, the household, work.
- Estate, the long road. Probate, assets, final accounts.
Tick boxes, not paragraphs. Banks, insurers, government and utilities, in one list.
How the gift works
- Choose Send as a gift and add their name and email.
- Write your own words in the message box. If it's left blank, a generic "Hope you enjoy this gift!" is sent instead.
- Send it now, or pick a date. Scheduled gifts are sent overnight Australian time, so choose the day before you'd like it to arrive.
- They'll get an email to accept the gift, then the checklist lands in their inbox as a PDF.
Written by someone who has done it, not someone who read about it.
